W.A Wijewardena, a career central banker, retired from the Bank as its Deputy Governor in 2009 after serving that institution for nearly 40 years. While in the Bank, he has been involved in almost all the areas of central banking, including economic research, monetary policy, financial system stability, provident fund and currency issue management, public debt, rural credit and banking. He initiated the setting up of Sri Lanka accounting and auditing standards as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board from 2000 to 2008.
W.A Wijewardena presently serves as an Adjunct Faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and provides his services as a visiting lecturer to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Postgraduate Institute of Management in Sri Lanka and Naresuan University and PurabhaUniversity in Thailand. He is also the President of the Business Management School which offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees of UK’s University of Leicester and Northumbria University in Sri Lanka.
